The Majestic Ranch Arts Foundation’s origins were in Majestic Music Hall, Inc., a foundation spawned through efforts of the San Antonio Downtown Association to save and preserve the historic Majestic Theater in downtown San Antonio in the 1970s.
After fulfilling their role in that mission, the Board of Directors purchased a 500 acre property northwest of San Antonio in Boerne with the intention of establishing an arts community in this uniquely South Texas location. Initially, they built three studio residences and a large open-air pavilion on the ranch and offered them for use by area art institutions’ visiting artists and scholars. University students from the area have enjoyed the ranch’s spectacular vistas during plein-air painting sessions.
In 2005, the Board embarked on an expansion of its mission and programs. As part of this revitalization they incorporated a new name, one which hearkens back to the foundation’s origins - The Majestic Ranch Arts Foundation. In furtherance of the Foundation’s mission, construction was begun on new studios and administrative facilities in spring 2006, and courses, workshops and programs commenced in fall 2006.
