Stone Sculpture

Instructed by Rachman Ulmer

Program Details

Audience: All Levels - Teen to Adult

Beginning through advanced instruction in stone sculpture. All instruction is completely hands-on and student-driven. This class will explore direct carving in the round the various locally available limestones.

For the beginner and experienced alike, we will develop and refine hand tool techniques from blocking out the stone, to refining the form, finishing the surface, mounting and displaying the finished piece. Each student will be introduced to power tools; however, the emphasis will be on developing hand tool technique that fits with each student’s style of expression. All you have to bring to class is some form of eye protection, a dust mask and a light (thin) pair of leather gloves and perhaps a snack and drink.

Tuition includes one stone and use of basic hand tools. Tools available for purchase, extensive source list provided here.  Taught by Rachman Ulmer.
